Thermotherapy
Thermotherapy is a proven, non-invasive way to increase comfort, reduce stiffness, and enhance rehab
Service Description
How Thermotherapy Helps Pets in Rehabilitation Soothing heat to relax muscles, reduce stiffness, and support healing Thermotherapy, or heat therapy, is a widely used treatment in veterinary rehabilitation that involves applying controlled warmth to specific areas of the body. It is especially beneficial for pets with chronic conditions, muscle tightness, or recovering from injuries where improving flexibility and comfort is key. How Does It Work? When heat is applied to the body, it causes blood vessels to dilate (vasodilation), increasing blood flow to the affected tissues. This enhanced circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to the area, helping to support tissue repair and reduce muscle spasms. Heat also helps to relax tight muscles and improve joint flexibility, which is essential for pets undergoing physical therapy or recovering mobility. When Is Thermotherapy Used? Thermotherapy is most effective for: Chronic pain and arthritis Muscle tightness or spasms Stiff joints and reduced range of motion Before exercise or rehabilitation sessions to prepare tissues Unlike cold therapy, heat is typically not used immediately after an injury, as it may worsen acute inflammation. Instead, it is best applied during the subacute or chronic stages of recovery. Safe and Simple Thermotherapy may include warm packs, heated blankets, or therapeutic ultrasound. Treatments are usually 10–20 minutes and are generally well-tolerated. Your veterinarian will guide you on the appropriate temperature and duration to ensure safety.
